Message from Bev Williamson

Following a strategic planning meeting today we have found a way of us covering all classes with qualified staff in a case of snowy weather. In future we will only close for severe weather if the site itself is not deemed to be safe or County tell us not to. We will remain open for parents and children that are able to walk in. As always, you have the right to make the decision to not bring your child in if you don’t feel safe doing so and we will support you in that by not marking a child as ‘unauthorised’, this will also be the case if you have siblings at other schools which have closed and have child care issues as a result. We would always recommend that children who usually come via county transport do not come into school on such occasions as they should not be put at risk by attempting the journey via taxi. Hot Meals will be available on snowy days unless you are informed otherwise as the catering staff will have stores of food in their freezers for such an event. In future classes would be covered by the following staff:

Panthers – K. Wilby as usual

Leopards – Bev Williamson HT (If usual teacher can’t make it in)

Tigers – Mrs Morgan HLTA (If teacher can’t make it in)

Penguins – Mrs Souch HLTA (If usual teacher can’t make it in)

Polar Bears – Mrs Pritchard, SEN Teacher Y4 (If usual teacher can’t make it in)

Seals – Mrs Ormiston MUSIC/Y4 (If usual teacher not in)

Wolves – Miss Johnston as usual, but will arrive later as has a long walk. Mrs Doherty HLTA to cover class until she arrives

Dingoes – Miss Ashdown as usual

Foxes – Mrs Bayman, SEN Teacher Y5 (If usual teacher can’t make it in)

Bumblebees – Mrs Blaney as usual

Fireflies – Mrs Harrison HLTA (If usual teacher can’t make it in)

Dragonflies – Mrs Bletso, SEN Teacher Y6 (If usual teacher can’t make it in)

If a high proportion of children with specific learning needs have made it into school Mrs Doherty would teach Leopards and Bev Williamson take classes for high profile needs.

In really exceptional cases such as snow coming at a time of high staff sickness staffing may cause closure but this would be very rare. We hope that in future children will be reassured by the above information and that normal curriculum will continue as much as possible. My thanks go to the staff who have all volunteered to be on this plan to make opening a possibility.

Best Wishes,    Bev Williamson
